Family Preparedness Tabletop v0.3 • AND THEN WHAT?™
Build Your Family Readiness Profile
Imagine a major disruption has affected your community. Utilities, stores, transport and communications may not work normally for several days. What does your family actually have?
Baseline planning target: 30 gallons per person for 30 days. Include safe storage and treatment/backup options.
Include shelf-stable food, special dietary needs, manual can opener, and food that can be prepared during utility outages.
Consider maintenance/prescription medicines, basic OTC supplies, medical IDs, prescriptions/records, and family-specific needs.
Examples: safely stored fuel, LPG, solar lights/chargers, power stations, generator set and appropriate extension equipment. Operate fuel-burning equipment only in safe, properly ventilated locations.
Emphasize deterrence, early warning, lighting, communication, avoidance and lawful protective equipment appropriate to the household.
Examples: AM/FM/SW receiver, two-way radios, Starlink or another satellite option where available, charging cables, spare batteries and extra power banks.
Keep a household-appropriate emergency cash reserve, including useful smaller denominations, stored securely.
Examples: doctor, nurse, dentist, pharmacist, engineer, electrician, plumber, mechanic, security professional, communications/radio operator, chef/cook, driver and other useful local capabilities.
